Information Resources releases new secure wireless network

Posted on August 24, 2009

Utwpa2 is the new secure wireless network released by Information Resources . In contrast to the older wireless access method, logging into VPN to access the Internet and campus resources is not required with utwpa2 after connecting to the network. This is a single step with utwpa2, accomplished at logon.

The creation of a login profile or SSID is necessary to use utwpa2. Just as with VPN, a valid UT Southwestern user name and password are necessary to logon. Instructions can be found on Information Resources's internal Web site about how to create a SSID for utwpa2 . The Library will also be able to provide some assistance to clients who may need help setting up a utwpa2 SSID.

To avoid redundancy, Information Resources (IR) plans to decommission the older wireless network. Tentatively, this is scheduled to occur by the end of August 2009. A final decision on the exact date has not been made, but IR will post an announcement when it is available.

More information about the transition to utwpa2 can be found on the IR Website.

Information Resources can be contacted by calling (214) 648-7600 or by e-mailing IRCALLCENTER@UTSouthwestern.edu
