Subscribing to Library News Feeds or Email Newsletter

Information About Subscribing to Feeds

What are "Feeds"?

Feeds are content from specific Web sites which may be "syndicated" or read by special software programs called, "feed readers" (more information below). Feeds may be brief summaries, headlines, or links to actual resources. Examples of kinds of feeds available on Library News include:

  • New databases or journals
  • Changes to resources or services
  • Upcoming classes
  • Holiday hours

The purpose of providing feeds is to alert you of changes to the site outside without filling your email mailbox.

What is a "Feed Reader"?

Feed readers do just their name says...they read feeds. There are a number of good feed readers, but the one that the Library recommends is NewsGator. This is a free (no-cost) online feed reader that you can access from any computer with Web access.

The Newsgator Web site provides extensive assistance in setting up a free account, but here are instructions to subscribe to the Library News feeds:

  1. Copy this URL: http://libraryblogs.utsouthwestern.edu/MT/LibraryNews/index.xml
  2. Log into NewsGator

  3. Select Add Feeds from blue top-bar.

  4. Select URL & Import tab.

  5. Paste the URL in the box and select a folder, if any; click on Add Feed button; close pop-up window.

There are other ways to make subscribing to blogs easier, including browser settings and the NewsGator blog. Contact Library Webmaster for further assistance.
